Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
